Roger Bourne - Director

Roger has been a long-standing advocate for the primary sector, beginning his career as an agribusiness journalist before joining the CRIs in 2005. He has since held a range of communications, commercial and strategy roles at Plant & Food Research, most recently as Director of Strategy, Brand & Impacts for Bioeconomy Science Institute.

Roger led the establishment of the brand position and communications approach for Plant & Food Research as a new institute post the merger of HortResearch and Crop & Food Research in 2008. An important aspect of this was successfully drawing on the passion of staff across the two legacy organisations to create a new vision, story and promise for stakeholders, and taking that to customers, New Zealand and the world.

Those of you who have worked with Roger will know that he is an exceptional storyteller and strategic thinker. He’s outgoing, loves connecting with people and ideas, and has a clear passion for creating communications that enables science to build influence and unlock opportunity for impact with industry, government and society.
